Nevermind any previous reviews, with McCarthy at the helm of this installation of the east's must-have ski guide , there may never need to be another. Thorough, insightful, and downright truthful, it's essential for even veteran eastern skiers to get the real deal on their favorite small and mega resorts. I've put it in my bib's map pocket (my only complaint is that it's a bulky pocket fit) and am waiting for the winter storm clouds.

Despite the rise of western mega-resorts, skiing in greater New England hasn't lost its appeal among the thousands of skiers who live on the eastern seaboard and make weekend treks up north throughout the long ski season. The draw is quintessential New England skiing and ambiance: the challenge of narrow trails, the variability of natural snow mixed with the reliability of machine-made snow, wooded slopes, and the clapboard architecture of the old world combined with new resort conveniences. This guide offers photographs, maps, and fact-filled descriptions of the mountains and trails from the experts at SKI Magazine as well as insider scoops on secret spots, the best hotels, and the finest restaurants available at each skiing mecca. 87 ski resorts are covered, including Killington, Sugarloaf, and Stowe.
